Vintage patterns

10 Mar

My vintage patterns arrived yesterday! I can’t wait to try them out.

Aren’t they glam?

Crochet Blanket

8 Mar

I’ve started to crochet a blanket. Yay!

excuse the bad lighting!

I’m using the Summer Garden Granny Square pattern which I found here via Ravelry. It’s so pretty. All of the squares will have the last round in white, but I’ll mix up the centres.

Strawberry Jam

8 Mar

I made jam! I’ve never made it before and it’s so yummy!

I used the recipe on the back of my packet of Jamsetta which I would link to, but apparently Fowlers Vacola don’t have a website (or it’s very well hidden!).

Birdies!

3 Mar

Hello! I say it every year; I can’t believe it’s March already! February seemed to fly by and I haven’t finished half of my craft projects. March intends to be the month where I make myself lots of clothes- we’ll see!

I looked out the window the other day and saw these two hanging out on the tomato stakes! Aren’t they sweet.

Tea Dress

28 Feb

My friend Tam held a fancy pants tea party this weekend. I wanted to make a dress to wear and as usual left it to the last minute and whipped it up the night before. It turned out  for the event, but if I were to wear it again I’d make more adjustments.

Pattern:

New Look #6557 bodice D (the blue one)

Variations:

  • straps instead of a halter
  • completely different skirt – I wanted a 50’s looks skirt therefore improvised with a wide piece of fabric with lots of gathering

Adjustments:

  • I added about ten cm of length to the bust piece so it wasn’t indecent and added a few cm’s to the width. I overestimated though and ended up making a whole pile of adjustments (my bodice has darts!) so I’d be more careful with that next time.
  • I shortened the bodice so the skirt started at my waist.

Time to make:

3 hours

The Verdict:

I like this pattern. I’ve made the red/white dress before in a navy and red cherry print with pleasing results.
